Founding partners Calder and Aaron Wilson are dedicated to providing high quality, well designed, sustainable projects. We specialize in residential and small commercial projects and provide a full range of architectural services. We are passionate about architecture and strive to meet our clients’ budget and scheduling needs while surpassing their design expectations. We realize that everyone has a vision for the spaces where they live and work. Our job is to listen to and understand the unique needs of each client so that we can help them achieve that dream environment. Our office is located in the South French Broad neighborhood of Asheville, NC.

Collaborate
At Wilson Architects we believe collaboration is essential to creating quality design. We start by listening to the client to create a unique vision that is a result of our combined input. Successful projects begin with good communication.
From the beginning of the design process through the end of construction, we approach each project with a team mentality. We enjoy working closely with our consultants and our builders. They provide invaluable information that makes every project better. For a list of our resources, please see our links page.
We also enjoy opportunities to collaborate with other designers. Many of the projects in our portfolio were designed and completed while we were employees of Stephen Beili at studio dionisi incorporated. We value his creative design ideas and will continue to work with him on future projects.
A project is the combined effort of the design staff, the client, the builder, and every worker on the construction site. When everyone is included, the process is much smoother, and the result is much greater than the sum of its parts.
Sustain
At Wilson Architects we are committed to sustainable design. We believe that good design is sustainable and that by taking an holistic approach to architecture we can design homes that are not only green but affordable.
Most of our new construction has been certified through the Healthy Built Homes program in North Carolina, and we have experience working with the LEED for Homes program. Wilson Architects has designed a super insulated home in West Asheville and worked with studio dionisi on the design for a straw bale house in Black Mountain. Currently, no certification is available for green renovations, but we understand that reusing the existing building stock is one the greenest ways to build. We strive to help clients on green renovation projects, on both large and small scales.
We design all our homes to take advantage of passive heating and cooling. Our builders, consultants, and suppliers help us design green water and heating systems, including solar thermal panels, geothermal heat pumps, tankless water heaters, energy recovery ventilation, radiant heating, rain water collection systems, and high efficiency forced air systems. We know that even small projects can be significantly improved by good design and wise use of resources. DESIGN MATTERS.
Cost
Operating within a budget does not mean sacrificing design! Good design is always our top priority, for all projects, big and small. A good design adds value to any building project through improved function, efficiency, and visual appeal. Because we are a small, family firm, we are able to offer rates that make it affordable to include good design, regardless of project size.
